What are basemaps?
A basemap is a map depicting background reference information such as landforms, roads, landmarks, and political boundaries. They come in a variety of types, styles, and scales, from full detail for reference to understated ‘background’ styles. Basemap data can be overlaid with other data, to provide the layered contextual mapping.
Gruntify collaborates with several global GIS companies to deliver both free and paid pre-authored content to its customers. Current list of basemaps includes MapBox, Microsoft, DigitalGlobe, ESRI, HERE, TOMTOM with several additional vendors being added in 2018.
What are the uses and benefits?
The main use and benefit of basemaps are to provide improved visual and contextual mapping experience for the user. Gruntify’s ability to change between day and night map viewing, terrain, satellite, hybrid, the street mapping is an experience for all to see!
How does it work?
The process of adding basemaps is extremely simple. System owners can enter the API key in their Gruntify portal for each basemap category. By doing that, they will unlock access both on the mobile and on the web. This then enables the users to access new basemaps instantly on their devices, and to overlay basemaps with other data, such as 3D models of their city or similar.
